22 years old, Miss Tissa Onyekuro April, a native of Delta state and a student of Ignatus Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt is a model and beauty queen, No Makeup Queen Ecowas 2022, one of the top tier pageants in Nigeria. She spoke with FOURWALL MAGAZINE on her journey as beauty queen, future plans and importance of pageantry.
How would you describe your journey as a beauty queen?
My journey as a beauty queen at first was challenging but I made it through with a smile on my face.
What were the challenges you faced during the contest and how you overcame them?
My number one challenge was to move from Port Harcourt to Abuja for the camp with the flood and bad road, it took me 7 hours to get to Abuja, i had to be positive and pray for a safe journey down to Abuja.
What would you say stood you out from other contestants?
What stood me out from other contestants was my physical appearance and my determination.
How long have you been in the modeling?
3 years now
What motivated you to contest for this pageant?
Was a friend that literally forced me into it which I am still great fully till today.
How has winning this changed your life?
It’s changed my life by taking me to places I could only dream about. Having people that I could call and ask for constant advice on things, support and having giving me life long friendships that I will always cherish.
How were you able to deal with the responsibilities that come with being a beauty queen?
Once you join the family you are no longer alone, you have people to guide you through every step both financially and otherwise.
What are the pet project you have embarked on during your reign?
Haven’t done any yet.
Has been a beauty queen clashed with your personality?
Yes, it has a lot of time but I have always find a way though it.
Who is your role model?
Myself I look up to my self so I could get the best out of me.
What does the sash and crown symbolize to you?
They symbolize my hard work and motivate me to keep doing my best.
